Overview

The Kedartal Trek in the Himalayas is a mesmerizing journey to a glacial lake situated at 4,750 meters. With its pristine waters, Kedartal is fed by the snowfields of surrounding peaks including Thalay Sagar (6,904 m), Meru (6,672 m), and Bhrigupanth (6,772 m). The lake serves as the source of the River Kedar Ganga, an important tributary of the Bhagirathi River.

Kedartal trekking tour, is not only spiritually significant but also visually enchanting, taking travelers through dense Himalayan birch forests, alpine meadows, bubbling streams, and glacial landscapes. Though the trek spans roughly 17 kilometers, the steep terrain and high altitude over three days make it moderately challenging, earning its place among the top high-altitude treks in the Uttarakhand Himalayas.

The trek begins at Gangotri (3,415 m), a revered Hindu pilgrimage site in the Chota Char Dham circuit. From Gangotri, the trail ascends to Bhoj Kharak (3,989 m) and continues to Kedar Tal. Campers are treated to breathtaking views of massive Himalayan peaks surrounding the lake, creating a heavenly experience.

This trek is recommended for travelers with prior high-altitude trekking experience. The best months to undertake the Trek to Kedartal in Uttarakhand are May - June and August - October.
