Overview

The Gangotri - Gaumukh Tapovan trek is a popular adventure trek in the Uttarakhand state of India. Located at the base of the Gangotri Glacier, Gaumukh, also known as the "Cow's Snout," is the source of the holy river Ganga. Tapovan, situated above the Gangotri Glacier, is a stunning high-altitude meadow. This trek passes through glaciers and rugged terrain, making it one of the most thrilling treks for adventure enthusiasts worldwide. The trail is rated moderate, suitable for both mountaineers and non-mountaineers with good health.

At Trekking in India, we organize an exclusive 11-day Gangotri-Gaumukh Tapovan Trek. You will start your journey from Gangotri and explore beautiful glaciers like Gangotri Glacier, Meru Glacier, and Kirti Bamak Glacier. The trek also offers breathtaking views of peaks such as Mt. Shivling, Gangotri group of Peaks, and Kedardome Peak. You will visit Bhojwassa, offering panoramic views of the Bhagirathi group of peaks, and Tapovan, a serene high-altitude meadow. Along the way, you might spot Blue Mountain goats (Bharal) on the mountain ridges.

The trek culminates at Gomukh, located on the snout of the Gangotri Glacier, the legendary source of the Ganges River. The best time to undertake this trek is May to June and mid-August to October.
