Looming at 6,191 meters in the Kumaon Himalayas, Adi Kailash, also known as Om Parvat, is a revered peak whose snow deposition pattern forms the sacred “OM” symbol. Its massif resembles Mount Kailash in Tibet (6,638 meters). Other names for Adi Kailash include Little Kailash, Jonglingpong Peak, Baba Kailash, and Chhota Kailash.
The summit remains largely untouched due to its sacred status, though the first recorded attempt was by an Indo-British team in the late 19th century, followed by another in 2004. At the base lies Lake Parvati (approx. 4,500 meters), considered holy by Hindu pilgrims. The trek traverses verdant valleys dotted with tribal villages, cultivated lands, streams, and diverse flora and fauna across different altitudes. On clear days, trekkers may even catch a glimpse of Annapurna Peak (8,091 meters) in Nepal.
The Adi Kailash Yatra trek spans from 2,200 meters to 4,752 meters, making it one of the more challenging treks in the Kumaon region. The best time for Adi Kailash Yatra trek is from June to October, when the OM symbol is most visible on the snow.
