Overview

Nestled in the heart of the Kullu Valley, the Chandrakhani Pass makes for one of the best treks in Himachal Pradesh. Located at an altitude of 3,660 meters, this scenic trek offers stunning views of the Himalayas, including Deo Tibba, Pir Panjal, and the Parvati ranges. It is said to be the easiest high-altitude pass trek in Himachal Pradesh and therefore is ideal even for beginners. This trek carries rich mythological significance. According to legend, Jamlu, the deity of Malana, once opened his basket at the pass, releasing local gods who scattered across Kullu, earning it the name “Valley of Gods.” Today, trekkers can not only soak in the stunning natural beauty but also witness timeless traditions in villages like Malana, where ancient customs remain remarkably preserved.

This trekking tour in Himachal Pradesh begins with a drive from Manali to Naggar, then climbs through deodar, pine, and chestnut forests to Ganachalani. From there, the trail leads to Celanti, with the path further then winding up a rocky track to Chandrakhani Pass (3,600 m). From the pass, one can enjoy breathtaking views of the Ghalpo peaks, Dharamsura (6,446 m), Papsura (6,451 m), and other peaks of the Parvati Valley. The trail descends through Dadru to the ancient village of Malana, famed for its strict customs that forbid outsiders from touching its people, temples, or belongings, before continuing down to Jari (1,520 m), where the journey back to Manali begins.

This easy-to-moderate trek in Himachal Pradesh mixes easy trails with challenging high-altitude stretches, making it both exciting and rewarding. Offering stunning views of Deo Tibba, the Pir Panjal, and the Parvati range, the Chandrakhani Pass Trek combines natural beauty, cultural lore, and offbeat exploration. It's a journey that leaves you with memories and mountain vistas that last a lifetime.
