Overview

The Lamayuru Chilling Trek is one of the most scenic moderate treks in the Ladakh region, passing through the remote and stunning Ripchar Valley, which is dotted with nomadic settlements and vibrant alpine flowers. This trek offers an immersive experience of Ladakh's raw beauty as it traverses high mountain passes that reward trekkers with breathtaking views of the Karakoram and Zanskar ranges.

The initial stretch of the trek, up to Chilling, remains relatively less explored, adding to its offbeat charm. From Chilling, trekkers cross the Zanskar River using a traditional pulley cable bridge before continuing towards the Markha Valley, one of the most popular and picturesque valleys in Ladakh.

The journey begins at Lamayuru (3,510 m), home to the ancient and renowned Lamayuru Monastery, one of Ladakh's oldest monasteries dating back to the 10th century. The monastery beautifully reflects the Indo-Tibetan heritage through its ancient manuscripts, murals, and chortens.

From Lamayuru, the trail leads to Wanla via Prinkiti La (3,650 m) and then ascends gradually towards Hinju Village (3,720 m). The Lamayuru Chilling Trek continues to climb up to Kongze La (4,950 m), offering panoramic Himalayan views, before heading towards Dung Dung La Base. After crossing Dung Dung La Pass, the trail descends steeply through rugged terrain, eventually concluding at Chilling.
