Overview

The Sikkim government lifted restrictions on trekking in previously limited areas, including the backbone of the Singalila Ridge along the Sikkim - Nepal border, in the year 2000. This opened access to a longer yet more scenic approach to the Goecha La Pass, located beneath the mighty Mount Kangchenjunga. The trek offers the joy of high-altitude Himalayan trekking, taking you up to around 5,000 meters at Goecha La. The gradual ascent allows sufficient time for acclimatization, making the journey more enjoyable.

The Singalila Ridge and Goecha La Trek is among the best options to experience the last untouched wilderness of the Himalayas. It offers an exhilarating trekking adventure that attracts travelers from across the globe. Major highlights include the trails from Garibas to Sandakphu, Sandakphu to Phalut, Raman to Rimbik, and Tshoka to Dzongri — each offering breathtaking landscapes.

At Trekking in India, we offer a well-organized Singalila Ridge and Goecha La Trekking Tour that takes you from the tea-covered hills of Darjeeling to the ancient Himalayan culture of Sikkim. This trek provides spectacular views of the Himalayan range — from Cho Oyu to Kanchenjunga — as well as diverse terrains ranging from rhododendron forests to alpine meadows. Along the way, you'll also visit some of Sikkim's most famous monasteries, including Tashiding, Pemayangtse, and Rumtek, which showcase the rich Buddhist heritage of the region.
