ITINERARY :

Day 01: Delhi - Leh (Complete Rest in Leh for acclimatisation)
Take the morning flight for Leh. Check into the guest house and relax the whole day. This is necessary for getting acclimatised. Overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 02: Leh - Shey - Thiksey - Hemis
On this day you will go a sightseeing trip to some ancient monasteries in this area.

Shey Gompa is about 15 kms from Leh. It used to be the summer palace of the kings of Ladakh. There are lots of Stupas and Gompas built around the palace. Shey palace was built by Deldan Namgyal in the beginning of 17'Th century AD. Main attraction in Shey is the 12m Shakyamuni Buddha statue inside the Dresthang Gompa.

Thiksey Gompa, close to Shey is about 17 kms from Leh. The monastery is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Ladakh and belongs to the Gelukspa order.

Hemis, about 45 kms south of Leh it is one of the most famous and largest monastery in Ladakh. It belongs to the Drukpa order and was founded in the early 17'Th century. The setting is perfect with the monastery cradled in a lovely valley, surrounded by streams and fronted by long Mani walls. Overnight stay at the guest house.

Day 03: Leh - Baralacha
After breakfast drive to Baralacha. This is the trek point for the Spiti Valley. On arrival set out camp for overnight stay.

Day 04: Baralacha Pass - Kinlung, 12 kms Trek

In the morning trek downstream Yunam River. There is one Sarai for shelter at this camping ground. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

Day 05: Kinlung - Serchue, 13 kms Trek
Trek along the right bank of the Yunam River on Manali-Leh highway. One may bathe in the hot water springs right on the bank of this river. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

Day 06: Tser - Foot of pass, 8 kms Trek
This is arduous climb. Very good view of Lingti plains is had from there. Interesting rock formations may be attributed to massive erosion. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

Day 07: Serchue - Lungun, 12 kms Trek
Trek along Tsarap nullah. The track is very steep & boulders. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

Day 08: Lungun - Tser, 12 kms Trek
From Lungun follow right bank of the nullah. One may have to ford the nullah about five times before reaching the flat camping site on the right bank at Thachhung Ri or Tser. The nullah is surrounded by Siberian willow forest. Ibex, Bharal, marco polo sheep, marmots and wild ass may be seen around the Camp. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

Day 09: Foot of pass - Foot of Glacier, 12 kms Trek
Cross over this high pass, alti 17800 feet. Tread on the glacier and camp just below it on the left bank of the Prang Chu. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

Day 10: Glacier camp - Kyatonullah, 11 kms Trek
Descent is difficult. Camping just on the right bank of the Kyato nullah on a fiat patch surrounded by Caragana Shrub. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

Day 11: Nallah - La Darcha, 12 kms Trek
Following right bank of Kyato Nallah till its junction with the Spiti River. From there take the track to reach La Darcha famous for its fair in the month of July. La Darcha ground was the centre of barter trade between Tibetans and Spitans. Dinner and overnight stay in tents.

Day 12: La Darcha - Kibber, 12 kms Trek
The climb is steep to this highest village in the world connected with road transport. Visit monastery at Kibber. Dinner and overnight stay guest house.

Day 13: Kibber - Kaza (14 kms drive) - Manali (180 kms/7-8 hrs)
After breakfast drive to Manali. On way visit the famous Key monastery and from Kaza to Manali we will cross Kunzum Pass and Rohtang pass. On arrival at Manali transfer to hotel for relax. Dinner & overnight stay in hotel.

Day 14: Manali
After breakfast full day sight seeing at Manali, visit Hadimba Devi Temple, old Manali, and Vashisth Village. In the evening enjoy the colourful Mall Road. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 15: Manali - Shimla
In the morning after breakfast drive to Shimla.

Shimla was the summer capital of India under British rule. Presently, it is the state capital of Himachal Pradesh, with its population around 1.6 lacs (Shimla town only). Shimla has seen many important historical events such as the famous Shimla Pact between India & Pakistan which was signed here. The place is also famous for its natural beauty, architectural buildings, wooden crafts and apples.

Day 16: Shimla
Morning visit Indian Institute of Advanced Studies built in 1888. Situated on a hillock, this was formally the palace of the British Viceroy. Also visit the Jakhu temple. Evening visit The Mall the main shopping area of Shimla and The Ridge. In the night take an AC Volvo coach for Delhi.

Day 17: Delhi

Arrival at Delhi by morning.
